What We Believe
THE BIBLE IS THE INSPIRED WORD OF GOD

The Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, came from God through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and is His Word.  (2 Timothy 3:16)

THE GODHEAD IS A TRINITY

The Godhead is a Trinity - God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit.  (Matthew 28:19)

SALVATION IS THROUGH JESUS CHRIST

Salvation comes only through Jesus Christ and faith in His shed blood on the Cross. Everyone is in need of a Savior because all of us have fallen short of the glory of God.  (Ephesians 3:8)

THE CHURCH

The Church is made up of the redeemed of all the ages, and is referred to in the Scripture as the Body of Christ, with Jesus Christ Himself being the head of the Church.  (Ephesians 1:19-23)

WATER BAPTISM

Water Baptism is a direct command of Jesus, and is to be done by immersion in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  (Matthew 28:19)

BAPTISM  OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Those who have been born again can ask and receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.  (Acts 1:8)  The Biblical sign that a person has received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues, as the Spirit enables them.  (Acts 2:4)

DIVINE HEALING

Divine Healing was provided for us by Jesus' suffering and death on the Cross, and is available to all who believe.  (Isaiah 53:5; 1 Peter 2:24)

THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST

The Second Coming of Christ will take place in two stages: first, the Rapture of the Church (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17);  second, after the seven years of Tribulation on the earth, (Matthew 24:21), Jesus shall return with His saints to establish His Kingdom on the earth where He shall reign 1,000 years as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  (Revelation 20:6; Isaiah 9:7). This is referred to as the Millennial Reign of Christ.

GREAT WHITE THRONE JUDGMENT

At the Great White Throne Judgment, the unsaved will be judged.  (2 Peter 2:9; Revelation 21:8)

TITHING

The Tithe (one tenth of the increase) is holy and belongs to the Lord. (Leviticus 27:30; Malachi 3:10)

C.O.R.E Values

"C" IS FOR ...

Christ Centered.

Everything that we do at the River will be centered around Christ. Our worship will be Christ centered, our Preaching/Teaching will be Christ centered, our outreach will be Christ centered, our fellowship will be Christ centered.

  •        Galatians 3:27 “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” (Romans 13:14, Ephesians 4:24, Colossians 3:10)

"O" IS FOR...

Obedient to Scripture.

At the River this a cornerstone to true Christian living. We cannot call ourselves Christians and then live a life that is separate from the word of God. We must be obedient to the word of God. Too many times we operate in opinion and tradition and not the word of God. The scripture will guide every decision from finance, outreach, future expansion and so on. The word of God will guide our education department as the chief textbook, everything that we teach/preach will be measured to the word of God and not the opinion of man.

  •        James 1:22 “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” (Isaiah 1:19, 1st Samuel 15:22, 2nd Corinthians 2:9)

"R" IS FOR...

Relational.

We live in a world where no one takes time to love their neighbors or their brothers and sisters in Christ. At the River, we will be a church that is relational to one another and to those who visit our church. We will also show the love of Christ outside our walls and shine His light in a Dark world. To be relational you must be willing to have fellowship with others, which means doing life together. Fellowship is more than just a meal together; it is living life out together. Living through the good, the bad, and the ugly. True fellowship means we will be there no matter the situation.

  •        Mark 2:3-4 “And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.” 4 “And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.” (1stThessalonians 5:11, Proverbs 27:17, 1st John 1:7)

"E" IS FOR...

Edify

At the River we will be a church that edifies one another. We will edify with our words, actions, and in doing so we will show the love of Christ. The word edify in its simplest form means to build up, but when you take a more in-depth look at the word you realize that the true meaning is…One who promotes the growth of another. It is our scriptural duty to promote the growth of all believers in Christ. We do not have a right of spiritual arrogance and pride; we have a duty of promotion.

  •        Romans 14:19 “Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.” (1st Corinthians 10:23, 1st Thessalonians 5:11)
